Empathy Based Classrooms Video

Empathy is one of the four constructs of the Nurturing Programme, which provide the building blocks for positive and constructive relationships. Empathy means tuning in to someone else’s feelings, understanding their emotional point of view. We don’t have to agree with what the other person thinks – just to be sensitive to the way they feel, and to accept it.

This 7-minute video on ‘Empathy Based Classrooms’ was made and filmed as part of Teach First’s provision for Early Career Teachers. The Early Career Framework (ECF) is a two-year programme, based on the best available research, of training and guidance for early career teachers.

Teach First are one of 6 lead partners in delivering this programme on behalf of the Department for Education and they asked The Centre for Emotional Health to provide expertise on supporting relationships in the classroom to flourish. We hope you enjoy it and find it useful in your own practice, even more so in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic which has presented so many challenges.
