Parents’ experiences of an antenatal nurturing programme (Wadephul, Jones & Jomeen, 2019)

Welcome to the World is an 8-week antenatal programme, which aims to support expectant parents by improving parental wellbeing, increasing attunement and bonding to their baby, and developing knowledge and skills in breastfeeding and practical care.

This paper, published in the British Journal of Midwifery, explores the experiences of attendees at the Welcome to the World programme and its effect on their experiences of the early postnatal period.

The findings indicated participants’ experiences of the programme were very positive; providing knowledge, skills and giving participants a safe space in which to explore feelings and concerns.

Participants also felt they had benefitted from the programme in terms of their emotional wellbeing and couple relationships.
